Steps to Take to Ready Your Outdoor Pool for Winter
The preparation of the swimming pool for the winter is an
important operation in the annual maintenance. In the cold season, your pool
needs proper treatment to prevent damage to the components and maintain the
quality of the water.
According to pool service Plano associates, getting your pool ready for winter starts from the moment
the water temperature drops below 15ºC.
One of the main aspects is the chemical treatment before the
frost. At a temperature of 5-6ºC, algae and bacteria do not have a favorable
living environment and will freeze with the water. But when spring comes, they
will come back to life, so autumn treatment is very important.
Autumn chemical
treatment
1. Set the pH level to 7.0-7.6.
2. Intensive treatment with granulated chlorine is also
required. Depending on the product used, read the instructions on the label and
use the correct dose. Careful! The granulated chlorine will be dissolved in
water to prevent discoloration of the pool`s finishes.
3. Complete the treatment with an anti-algae substance,
dosed according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
4. After all the substances have been introduced in the pool,
allow the pump to operate in the RECYCLE position for at least 24 hours, to mix
everything well with the water
Swimming pool
cleaning
1. Vacuum the bottom of the pool and clean the water surface
from leaves and other debris
2. Clean the leaf skimmer basket and place it in its box
Protection of pipes
against frost
Most pipes should be installed below freezing level (90-100
cm). If this condition is not met, the pipes must be emptied before the arrival
of cold weather, and their openings covered.
