Keeping Your Pool Clean – Using the Proper Cleaning Methods After an “Accident”

It’s a fact that fecal accidents happen, especially when you have children or pets who use your pool on a regular basis. Many people might be grossed out when something like that comes to light, but as long as you use the right solutions and methods for keeping your pool clean, these “accidents” will not cause any long term issues aside from a moderately nasty memory.

As recommended by experienced pool cleaning Plano services, here are the steps you should follow if this happens in your swimming pool:

  1. First get everyone out of the pool, so they won’t be exposed.
  2. Shut down the filtration system as quickly as possible.
  3. Use a fine mesh to remove any visible fecal matter as soon as possible.
  4. Dispose of the waste in a sanitary way, and the clean and disinfect the mesh you used.
  5. At this point, the filtration system can be turned back on. However, make sure you raise free chlorine levels to about 20 mg/L as well. Make sure there is enough chlorine for about 13 hours, which is as long as you’ll have to keep the pool at that level.
  6. Once the process is completed, backwash your filters, and make sure that the resulting waste is completely discharged and that it doesn’t run through the filter.
